Web 2.0 Applications!

To be honest, I had no clue what web applications or what they did for our education prior to this assignment. After reading the instructions, I now know that I've actually been using several different types of web apps all the time. The "web 2.0 applications" title fooled me a little I guess. Some of the earlier assignments for my ETEC 424 class included working with different web apps such as blogs, wikis, and my online eportfolio could be included too. I've also had to use different web apps to do search for information needed across the internet. There is this process called "social bookmarking" that I enjoy because, basically, you find something that you want and tag it which allows for other people looking for similar information to find it easier. This process seems to be real convenient for online research. Another type of web app is called "voice thread" which really blew my mind because I had no idea how to use it. After watching the example with the students using voice thread for the history project, I thought it was pretty cool to use. I can definitely see the major advantages to using voice thread within the classroom across the world.
The impact in today's education, with these web apps, is humongous! First off, the "social bookmarking" tool can be real convenient for everyone across the world because it allows for anyone to find the information quicker if someone else has found it and tagged it. I can see where this could be use on a research project with a specific topic already given to the students. The "voice thread" tool is the best one out of the examples because it can tie cultures, religions, and races together for educational purposes. It was amazing to watch and hear what the kids were doing with it in the example. Like I previously stated in my prior assignments, technology can be very convenient and beneficial if the teachers could somehow incorporate it into their curriculum more. GO WEB 2.0 APPS!

  1. I had no clue as well, but then I used google and wikiepedia to look it up and Web apps are some very helpful resources than can help a student for sure. Not only using it as a homework tool, but as well as finding a fun entertaining website online.

that is a very good point on how the voice thread can have different cultures interact with each other. A classroom in the US can learn languages and different classroom atmospheres in another country.

Technology is just a productive matter that our world is appreciating as the days go by.

  2. I did not know that appacation was used for education. It is so good that we get to use some of these appps in this class. It gives us a feel of some apps we can use in our own classroom setting. It also gives the student and teachers a chance to get to know one another directly or indirectly. I believe that are making an impact in today's education. I love the examples you used. If did know what application was I do now.

  3. Oh my gosh! You said it perfectly when you stated inthe beging of your post that we have been useing Web 2.0 the entire semester and did not even realize it. I think it is amazing how many different variations there are and how we have been incorprating them into our lives with little knowledge there we knew we where. I am very excited to keep on learning about the different technologies to be used in my classroom to i can continually better my learning and my teaching skills.
